In the legal definition of an invention, it can be said to be the creation of an idea using the laws of nature, and in a narrower scope, it means “a description” of a creative idea using the laws of nature (eg, the specification of a patent). Attitude in dealing with creative ideas would be as follows

1) Be at ease

2) Think freely

3) Be curious

4) Imitate

5) Note

Various theories exist about the creative thinking essential to invention, which includes Willus's 4 stages of creation, Rosmann's 7th stage, Paybun's 7th stage, Dewey's 5th stage, Osbourne's 7th stage, and Taylor's 5 levels of creativity. Spelling of names may, but probably may not, be correct. Let's briefly discuss all the above theories.

1. Theory of Creative Thinking

1) Wallace's 4 stages of creation process are: the preparation stage for perceiving a problem, collecting data, and analyzing the problem from various angles, incubation phase where or until when ideas for a solution pops up, expression phase where a solution is found, and validation phase where a verification of the solution is conducted.

2) Rosmann's Seven Steps integrates Helmholtz's Three-Level Theory with Wallace' Four-Level Theory. It consists of seven steps: observation of a problem, analysis of needs, search, creation of all subjective ideas, critical analysis of the ideas, creation of new ideas, then finally validation of the ideas.

3) Paybun's seven stages are the desire stage, preparation stage (same as that of Wallace), the manipulation stage of actively manipulating ideas, and the incubation stage (same as that of Wallace). The last consists of a suggestive phase where it feels like something is coming, an illumination phase (Wallace's manifestation phase), and a verification phase (same as Wallace's validation phase).

4) Dewey's five stages consist of difficulty, that is, finding a problem, clear definition of the problem, emergence of possible solutions, analysis of the possible solutions, and verification of solutions.

5) Osborne's seven stages are composed of a dicision making for how to find a solution, a preparation stage, an analysis stage, an idea formation stage, a deliberation stage, a synthesis stage, and an evaluation stage.

6) Taylor's level of creativity 5 levels are level 1, intuitive level found in adults, level 2, academic and technical level, level 3, invention level, level 4, innovative level, and finally level 5, the creative level with genius characteristics.

2. Technique of Invention

1) Brainstorming Technique

Brainstorming is a kind of meeting technique in which about a dozen people sit at a table and come up with ideas. There are several rules for meetings:

i) You must not evaluate or criticize the ideas created.

ii) Any ideas should be accepted and the more ideas the better.

iii) You should try to get innovative ideas by accommodating various ideas.

In the case of a leader, it is effective if a leader considers a specific problem from various angles, systematically separates the problem, presents only one problem, and informs the participants in advance about two days before the brainstorming session.

2. Checklist Method (SCAMPER)

Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify (Magnify, Minimize), Put to other use, Eliminate, Reverse (Rearrange). As the acronym represents, it is a way of inventing by substituting, combinding, adapting, modifying, and etc.

3. STH (Six Thinking Hats) method

It means six colored hats, that is, six different viewpoints. It is a suitable method for exploring ideas from different viewpoints. In more detail, it is a method of inventing by playing the roles of a white observer, a red point of view, a black negative, a yellow positive, a green new idea, and a blue moderator, and then talk and discuss various points of view.

4. Gordon's Law

Gordon's Law is a method of finding a specific solution by starting with a broad approach to a problem and directly relating the solution to the problem. It is necessary for the subject or moderator to discuss the problem in such a way that it starts with an abstract and wide range of problems and leads the listener to smaller and more direct problems.

5. Synetics Technique

Synetics technique is an invention method that uses familiar things to create new things. It is a method of making inventions through direct analogy, righteous analogy, symbolic analogy, and fantasy analogy.

Today, we looked at “Types of Invention Techniques” among the 4th Industry and Patent Overview. Next time, we will study “Inventogram: Invention Techniques Program”.
