1. Inventions necessary for national defense
If necessary for national defense, the government may prohibit foreign patent applications or order the invention to be treated as a secret. In addition, if it is necessary for national defense, a patent may not be granted, and if necessary for national defense, a patent may be accepted.
2. Overseas assembly
It refers to the act of manufacturing or assembling outside the United States using a product or process patented in the United States.
3. International publication
PCT application is published by the International Secretariat after one year and six months from the filing date.
4. Translations for International Publication
All PCT international applications are made for international publication by the International Bureau within one year and six months from the filing date in the language of international publication. For patents filed in Korean, an English translation must be submitted within 14 months from the filing date.
5. International deposit
International deposit of the microorganism is required if the microorganism itself or its use is a part of a patent.
6. International stage
As a term used in PCT applications, it refers to the stage from the submission of the international application to the submission of the translation.
7. International Preliminary Examination
For international applications, the international preliminary examination organization prepares an international preliminary examination report that reviews the possibility of obtaining a patent in advance, mainly referring to the prior art discovered by the international search organization.
8. International Application Requirements
An international application must include an application, a specification, one or more claims, one or more drawings, and an abstract.
9. International Patent Classification
According to the Strasbourg Agreement on International Patent Classification, it refers to the internationally used classification code established by WIPO in October 1975. It has a hierarchical structure of section, class, sub-class, main group, and sub-group.
